They so want to be BIG

When we set out to start a family I had visions of the 1 boy, 1 girl, 2 parents and that was the way it was gonna be. But life had other plans for me and I got sisters! Sisters. I am not equipped to deal with sisters.

All this because Hailey aspires to be big, not big in a large super-sized kind of way, but big in the "all growed up" kind of way. When your 3 year old wants to do everything your 8 old does it cannot possibly get any better when they are 8 and 12 or 11 and 16. Can you even imagine?

Her latest has been a year long dream to get out of her "baby" car seat and into a booster, the first step to sitting on the real car and not in a seat like Lauren does. I recently looked up the car seat laws again, and again, because I find them a bit daunting...and found that Hailey was going to be 12 5 before she could use a plain old booster with no back (which we have 2 of). Why so old? Because you have to be 40 pounds and 4 years to sit on the plain old booster, and Hailey weighs 29 pounds soaking wet - gaining 11 pounds before her 4th birthday is just about impossible.

SO, even though we have 2 plain old boosters I set out to get her the kind with the back that comes off (if she ever reaches 40lbs) and boy oh boy...did I make her day!

She was SO happy, and thrilled - to her this is OK, she is a "Bigger" girl now and she can even buckle herself! (which also means she can unbuckle...hmmm.)

She even took the time to notice all the differences, like "Mom where do I hang onto?" I asked what she meant and she went on to explain that when mommy slams on the breaks she needs a place to hang on to. Guess she realized that this car seat was not as "sturdy" as her old one but maybe mom shouldn't slam on the breaks eh?

She had to call everyone she knew, and tell them all about her new "big girl" seat. It was fun to see how excited she was!!

Oh and hey, that may be a real phone but it doesn't work - Just don't tell her that or I might have to hunt you down!

Okay she and my miss Molly could be sisters -- Molly doesn't even weigh 30 pounds yet -- and I just had to get her a new carseat -- which is a whole long blogpost in itself -- like your sudafed story. Oiy!

Anyway, love, love, love the last picture of her on the pink phone. Oh that nose -- I want to squeeze it! She is a beautiful princess and I think she and Molly are two of a kind!!!

BTW, I had to buy the brown carseat with flowers, of course!

Oh you can just see the pride in her face. Mom you are the best! I know we were at the drs office today (Con and I) and he was reading the carseat laws.. He should have been in a booster up to about a year ago and he's almost as tall as me! Maybe they make boosters for grownups.. love the comment about you slamming on the breaks! LOL

She looks so cool in her seat and with the phone. I started letting my 3 y.o. sit in the booster too for trips around town even though he's not 40 lbs. He's good about not unbuckling until it's time. I wish he could start buckling himself - then it'll be so sweet.

That's awesome! Claire is still happy in her car seat, but she doesn't have to keep up with the competition. ;)

It's funny that you mention the "where do I hold on?" thing! Claire always says, "Look, Momma! I'm holding onto my handle!" as she grips the sides of her seat. She thinks they're handles...and there is usually no slamming of breaks going on at the time. :)

Too cute...we are going to be getting something like that this weekend...our FIVE year old is still only 35 lbs, but for Kindergarten, he has to be able to get out of the carseat all by himself in carpool drop-off. He can buckle himself in his carseat but not unbuckle! So many of his friends are in boosters and I feel so bad, so this weekend we are going to get him one that can eventually take the back off. But in the meantime, he can use the "big belt"!

So cute! It;s really weird that you blogged about this because I was just talking about this with Ella (4). She hates her "baby" car seat and wants to sit in her older sister's booster. I need to see if there is a seat that she will like that will work.

As far as the law goes, in California (when I lived there) they had to be 60 pounds AND 6 years, so technically my daughter who is almost 10 and weighs 50 pounds may have to stay in her car seat until she can drive!!!

Cute pictures!

She kinda does have a little pre-teen thing going on...very cute.
The car seat changes are interesting rights of passage aren't they?

My older sister and I are four years apart and I feel Hailey's desire to be "big". It doesn't go away until college. I was always bugging my sister and her friends. She still talks about it.

Cars didn't even have seat belts until I was about 10. Part of the fun of riding around was sliding all over the plastic seat covers.

Aw, that was adorable! And I have boys here that are tiny...so we will have the same problem with carseats. Luckily so far no one is complaining...

I love the print of the fabric. My 6 year old is still in a toddler car seat. He is too small and I am trying to follow the rules even though he complains...all.the.time.

Your daughter is so cute...I just want to squeeze her little cheeks!
