If life came with a script:

I would have known that I would not have had the time alone I was expecting today and done more ahead of time

I would have known that Lauren’s school was going to close at noon thus rendering leaving the house in the morning totally worthless

I would have known that the snow would come, and come it would



I would have known that said snow would be so heavy and wet my arms and back may never recover

and I would know if I would be able to walk tomorrow or not

I would have known that the UPS man delivering my last box of Juicy Juice would get stuck in front our house even though he had chains on his tires

I would have known that I was going to have to schlep out in the snow 4 (make that 5) times to brush off the satellite dish

And I would have known just how beautiful more than a foot of Rocky Mountain Spring snow was going to be

And I would have known how peaceful it would be to go outside alone at 9pm and shovel a couple more inches of snow aching and cringing and grunting set aside

But what fun would that have been? If I had known. I am glad I don't have a script.

When you live in Colorado you get weather reports like this (note - I put in red the parts that apply directly to our area):

How quickly temperatures drop after the passage of this cold front will be a big influence in how much snow falls between Thursday and Saturday. If the potential snow forecast becomes reality, then travel will be difficult and dangerous along the urban corridor and Front Range Foothills. In the most extreme possibility, 10 to 20 inches of snow is possible, with the heaviest snowfall occurring to the west and south of Denver. The foothills and mountains could see more than two feet of snow. A WINTER STORM WATCH and a WINTER STORM WARNING are in effect for communities along the Interstate 25 corridor

The snow forecast for Denver and the Front Range is very complicated. If all of the precipitation that falls on Friday and Saturday is in the form of snow, then more than a foot of snow could accumulate. But the 9NEWS Weather Team agrees that at this time, temperatures look too warm for significant accumulation for areas below 5,500 feet which includes most locations around the metro area. For Colorado Springs and the southern Interstate 25 corridor, a total of 1 to 2 feet of new snow is possible for mountain areas and 6 inches or more could potentially fall over the adjacent plains.

Saturday Snow likely. Highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s.

So what's it gonna be?

Do I need to pick up an extra gallon of milk and a loaf of bread or not?

We were Ready, but the rest of the state wasn't

Tell me, please: If you live in a state notorious for large snow storms do you equip your vehicle with adequate snow tires or at least stay home when it gets bad?

If you answered yes, could you please educate Colorado?

If you answered no, shame on you!

We left at 9am (the storm was supposed to hit between noon and 9pm) we were trying to get out before it got bad...

We failed and this is what we faced:

When we left town it was not snowing, but shortly there after we saw this
So we slowed a bit, kept a nice distance and kept on going until we got stuck in this -

notice the cars in the wrong places? We were too far out of town to make an easy turn around so we sat...there were no near by exits.

60 minutes later - the four lane highway down to one - this is what we could see in the other 3 lanes...

So we sat tight and waited, a police officer showed up... what for exactly I am not sure - but at least he tried.

We eventually passed this only to find this up ahead

After this, we finally hit an exit we could take to head home and so we did.

We had been in the car nearly 2 hours and only made it about 30 minutes away from home.

On the way home we got to see this (I don't think they were just friends chatting in the ditch)

Eventually we saw this

OUR EXIT!!!!

A total of 4 hours in the car and we are right back where we started.

But the girls suited up, one happy, one crying and out they went.

April Snow

Thursday April 10th right? Yeah I think so - woke to snow. They warned us, and it actually snowed. I would not call it "Major Spring Storm Hits Denver" as they did but it has been snowing all morning. Wet heavy snow, takes an hour to shovel the driveway snow, gonna be sore in the morning snow!

I did take Hailey out in it while I shoveled. She ate snow. Mmmmm. Lunch. I took a couple of pictures but she kept telling me she did not want her picture taken...so I just picked my favorite one to post.

The other thing I wanted to share was the Professor's Last Lecture. I had seen it before, but last night I watched the Primetime interview with Diane Sawyer, and I have even more respect for this man and the way he lives his life. It is a nice lecture, with a lot to say and learn. I have to admit the last statement he makes brings me to tears everytime I see it. If you have time please watch it. Turn it on and listen to it while your doing something else even. It is worth it. You might even find yourself rewinding to see more of it!
